While it may be difficult for small businesses, such as those in serviced offices in Cardiff, to allow staff flexibility in how they work, any leeway they can offer employees could improve their productivity, according to one expert.
Dr Lance Workman, senior lecturer in psychology from Bath Spa University, said firms taking steps such as allowing workers to take a short walk on their lunch could reap benefits.
He added any other measures businesses offer to help boost efficiency can only result in a win-win situation.
Dr Workman noted employers could allow employees to adopt a more flexible approach as to when they arrive and leave the office now the clocks have gone back and the nights are drawing in.
By introducing plants into the workplace, firms – including those in offices to rent - can help to create a better environment for staff as they can have an impact on people's moods, he stated.
Last week, research published by Kellogg's revealed many employees have admitted that a lack of sunlight results in a drop in their mood, productivity and energy levels.
